Stop NetCharts Performance Dashboards
Before uninstalling NetCharts Performance Dashboards v2.4, you should stop all the related services. Access the Windows Services console from the Start Menu – Control Panel – System and Security – Administrative Tools. Stopping the NCPD Personalization Storage service will shut down all other services.
Once the services have stopped it is safe to uninstall.
Uninstalling NetCharts Performance Dashboards
NetCharts Performance Dashboards can be uninstalled from the Windows Add or Remove Programs tool. Launch Add or Remove Programs from the Windows Control Panel and begin the uninstall process.
The first screen of the uninstall process will ask if the data should be backed up before uninstall. Make sure you have “Yes, backup NCPD” checked, then press the Uninstall button.
Select the location to place the backup file and press Uninstall to continue.
The uninstall process will first backup the NetCharts data store, license key and other items into a single ZIP file into the location you selected.
You will be prompted with a message when the backup is completed and successful.
Click the OK button to continue the uninstall process.
When NetCharts Performance Dashboards 2.4 has been uninstalled, you will be asked to reboot the machine. This process will remove the final components of the product.
Installing NetCharts Performance Dashboards v2.5
When you have completed the uninstallation of NetCharts Performance Dashboards v2.4 you can install the new v2.5 release. Please see NetCharts Performance Dashboards Installation guide for details on the installation process.
Restoring NetCharts Performance Dashboards Content
Locate the backup file you saved during the uninstall process. Rename the file extension from.ncpdbak to .zip, for example: NCPD-Enterprise-2.4_07-25-2012.zip.
Open the .zip file in your favorite UNZIP program to expose the contents.
There are two or three files we need to restore the system. These are:
data.bak – backup of the NetCharts Performance Dashboards v2.4 dashboards.
NetChartsPerformanceDashboards.license – the license file for your instance.
users.xml – the user accounts. This file will only be present if you are using the NetCharts built in user authentication. If you are using Active Directory you will not need this file. Copy the data.bak file to the backup folder of NetCharts Performance Dashboards Postgres instances at:
C:\Program Files\Visual Mining\NCPD Enterprise\postgres\backup
Next, copy the NetChartsPerformanceDashboards.license file to the following location:
C:\Program Files\Visual Mining\NCPD Enterprise\liferay\lib
If you have the users.xml file then copy it to the following location:
C:\Program Files\Visual Mining\NCPD Enterprise\liferay\lib
Next, launch your browser and go to the NetCharts Performance Dashboards Archive Management interface. This can be found at:
http://localhost:9881/
Click the Restore tab to list the data.bak file that was copied.
Select the data.bak and click the Restore button. The NetCharts Performance Dashboards data store will be restored with the data.
Running the upgrade process
Once the restore is complete you must unpack and execute the NCPD upgrade utility to convert your restored NCPD 2.4 content into 2.5 content. The NCPD upgrade utility can be downloaded here. Unzip the utility to:
C:\Program Files\Visual Mining\NCPD Enterprise
Before running the upgrade utility, you should first stop the following NCPD Services: NCPD Web Service, NCPD Personalization Service, and NCPD Backup Service. Access the Windows Services console from the Start Menu – Control Panel – System and Security – Administrative Tools to stop the above NCPD services.
Once the services have stopped it is safe to run the upgrade utility.
From within Windows, run a command prompt as Administrator, move to the bin subdirectory of the upgrade directory and run the upgrader with the command:
upgrade
Once the upgrade utility has run, access the Windows Services console from the Start Menu – Control Panel – System and Security – Administrative Tools. Start the following NCPD services: NCPD Personalization Service, NCPD Web Services, NCPD Backup Services.
Once the services are restarted, you have completed the upgrade process and can log into the system.
